Trumbo Road Shoreline Stabilization

Composed of trash and construction debris, the Trumbo Road shoreline was degrading rapidly. There were concerns that the adjacent road would begin to collapse, posing a safety concern to the public. We stepped in to help.

This project involved the stabilizing of 225 linear feet of existing shoreline. The section was designed using varying sizes of riprap placed on top of a filter fabric liner, and environmental permits were required through Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the United States Army Corps of Engineer. Upon completion of the benthic survey, coordination was required through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration/Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary to relocate protected coral resources and mitigation was required to remove a small portion of mangroves. The new riprap provided a much-improved look for the area and successfully prevented erosion.

Successfully completed on-time and under budget, our work was put to the test during Hurricane Irma. The result? The shoreline remained stable throughout the inclement weather.?
