University of Texas - Biomedical Research and Health Professions
Built to blend with the existing Spanish Colonial style campus, the new Biomedical Research and Health Professions building is a two-wing, dual-purpose facility. It¡¯s bringing more research and academic spaces to the Brownsville campus, and its traditional elements¡ªinspired by local historic buildings¡ªare breathtakingly classic.
The north wing is a biological research laboratory with attendant faculty offices. There are hot and cold storage rooms and a vivarium (simulated environment) for research animals. The south wing houses general instruction spaces, medical instruction labs, and administrative office space.
And the labs and offices are designed to accommodate individual principal investigators. They include movable, modular lab furnishings and equipment customized to each researcher. Shared equipment spaces within the secured perimeter provide access to microscopy equipment, autoclaves, and tissue culture equipment.
The two wings are connected by an outdoor courtyard and two-story covered walkway. Perfect for taking advantage of the warm climate and fostering an active environment where researchers, staff, community, and students can interact, study, and relax.?
