UNI Schindler Education Center Renovation

As a key element in the University of Northern Iowa¡¯s (UNI) strategic vision, the Schindler Education Center renovation is preparing students for success in a rapidly changing, globally competitive, and culturally diverse world.?

Through this redesigned facility, future teachers benefit from a wide variety of integrated technology¡ªactive learning classrooms as well as highly flexible simulation classrooms (with furniture prototypes, emerging technologies, and progressive classroom configurations).?

With the DaVinci Lab (for science and art), a 120-seat scale-up classroom, and a collaborative active learning transformative (CAT) lab, students can engage with multiple settings and learn in small or large groups. There was one big challenge, though: the existing building circulation. Using corridor realignment, wayfinding strategies, and a learning stair that connected the main-level entry to the second-level learning commons, the confusing circulation was addressed and removed.
