USCG Maintenance and Performance Management Program

As part of their mission to support maritime safety, security, and stewardship, the United States Coast Guard (USCG) wanted to better understand where their shore assets were and what condition those assets were in¡ªcreating a foundation for holistic asset and facility management. We were brought in over a decade ago to execute a multi-phase program to aid in the development and deployment of a large-scale decision making and asset management solution.

Using USCG¡¯s Shore Asset Management (SAM) program, we enrolled and classified nearly all of their shore assets, improving access to information and status. We also created a user-friendly online dashboard to continually evaluate key maintenance performance indicators for these hundreds of thousands of assets.

During planning activities before each hurricane season, the USCG uses the SAM database and its information to determine the locations, availability, and maintenance condition of portable emergency generators. In the last few years, this has helped them preposition as many generators as possible in regions expected to suffer hurricane damage¡ªand it also enabled the USCG to prepare their fuel supplies for this equipment.

With the level of preparedness that the SAM database and dashboard provide, the USCG will be better able to deliver emergency relief and other services to coastal communities for years to come.

The appearance of U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), or USCG visual information does not imply or constitute DoD / DHS / USCG endorsement.
