Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Plan (CRMP)
With the changing climate, increased frequency and intensity of storm events as well as rising tidal waters can cause recurrent flooding throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. This flooding threatens Virginians¡¯ cherished economic, cultural, and environmental resources in coastal regions. It can result in damage to property, unsafe or unsanitary conditions, disruption of services, and even loss of life.
The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)¡¯s Office of Resilience Planning (ORP) is charged with the goal to reduce negative impacts resulting from flooding. They needed to enhance their capability to anticipate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from flood hazards. So, they turned to us to help develop an update to their Coastal Resilience Master Plan (CRMP), creating Phase II. Our update serves as a region-specific, long-range plan to identify issues and provide examples to mitigate flooding. The plan identifies anticipated risks, as well as opportunities to reduce negative impacts.
The DCR can implement their Community Outreach and Engagement plan with this CRMP Phase II project¡ªcharting a comprehensive path toward long-term resilience to protect people, homes, businesses, infrastructure, and ecosystems from the impacts of flooding.
