Washington Gas Fleet Maintenance Facility

After a fire destroyed a vehicle maintenance shop at their Rockland, Maryland, location, the Washington Gas Light Company (WGL) saw an opportunity to rebuild better and add to the remaining administrative office spaces. They reached out to us to help.

From the outset, we worked with WGL to verify and document that the building and all its systems and assemblies were planned, designed, installed, tested, operated, and maintained to meet LEED requirements. The program includes new locker room and restroom spaces, a fitness center, a new vehicle repair garage with larger work bays, and a wash bay for the vehicles. The sloped metal roof allows for mitigation and exhaust of compressed natural gas at the highpoint, reducing the amount of required ductwork, while providing the ideal angle for photovoltaic panels. The facility remained in operation during construction.

The completed Washington Gas Fleet Maintenance Facility exceeds the requirement for renewable power with an almost 50-kilowatt solar power system that provides 20 percent of the facility¡¯s consumed power. Along with energy optimization, stormwater management, and indoor air quality systems, the facility has lower energy usage and costs and provides a safe, comfortable, and healthy work environment.
