In an age of increasing specialisation, Roger’s diverse skillset is a valuable asset to clients and colleagues. Taking a leadership role on large water and wastewater projects, Roger’s broad understanding of a range of disciplines makes him a trusted advisor to clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
A favourite part of his profession is the people—working with people to find solutions for people. As a team leader, he finds mentoring junior staff invigorating. Roger sees his projects as more than technical exercises and as opportunities to directly contribute to the wellbeing of communities to improve their resilience. A project he’s especially proud of is the Te Anau Wastewater Treatment Scheme, where an innovative discharge-to-land process transports wastewater to a special irrigation system and pastureland. The result? The discharge was removed from entering a river.
Outside of work, Roger is passionate about motorsports—he’s a principal organiser of The Otago Rally, an annual event attracting international competitors.
