London¡¯s housing challenges are resulting in a shift of people moving out of the Capital to South East. But who are they and how many are leaving?
The London Plan, published in March 2021, sets a housing delivery target of 52,000 homes per year over ten years¡ªsignificantly short of the identified need.
There is a need for collaboration between authorities across the Wider South East to address the London¡¯s unmet housing need. Â鶹´«Ã½¡¯s Development Economics team has analysed migration data from the Mid-Year Population Estimates produced by the Office for National Statistics. In doing so, they¡¯ve aimed to determine how many people moved out of Greater London to the wider South East to identify where the greatest pressure for housing outside the capital will fall.
