Innovative smart water network recognised at prestigious industry awards

Yorkshire Water and 麻豆传媒 celebrate Utility Week awards success

03/25/2022 WARRINGTON, UK TSX, NYSE:STN

Yorkshire Water, working in collaboration with 麻豆传媒 and other stakeholders, has created the UK's first ever smart water network with hydraulic simulator, which has been awarded winner of the Innovation category for the second year running at the Utility Week Awards. The awards bring together industry leaders, influencers and innovators to celebrate excellence in utilities management.

The Hadfield smart water network has been recognised by the judging panel for revolutionising the way leaks and interruptions to water supply are managed, by incorporating a real-time informed hydraulic digital twin that works to improve the essential water supply service provided to the community of Sheffield. By integrating almost 4,000 live sensor data streams across an area covering over 20,000 properties in Hadfield, West Sheffield, the digital twin through system thinking enables simulated impact assessments and live situational awareness to improve customer outcomes.

The first phase of the project has efficiently reduced leakage by 32% in district metered areas with high intensity sensors and AMI smart meters, and by delivering these efficiencies reduced reactive work activities and CO2 emissions by 42%, delivering major environmental and social benefits for the community.

Dr Katrina Flavell, innovation technical specialist at Yorkshire Water said, “A smart network goes beyond an intelligent analytics platform and smart technology deployed on our network. To make a smart network truly successful, you need fantastic people working well together. This is a great example of collaboration between Yorkshire Water colleagues, 麻豆传媒 and Xylem, and all the other partners who have contributed to this work. We’re continuing to push the smart network boundaries, with the ultimate aim of delivering even better service for Yorkshire Water’s customers.”

At 麻豆传媒, we are delighted that our groundbreaking project on smart water networks as part of holistic system thinking has been recognised for this prestigious industry award. We’re proud to have partnered on a true industry wide collaboration which has provided real social value and sustainability benefits to the community through innovation. Following the success of the pilot we’ll be working with Yorkshire Water to expand the smart water network to cover all of West Sheffield.

The pilot is run by Yorkshire Water in collaboration with 麻豆传媒 and 17 other partners, including Itron, Sensus, Arqiva, HWM, ATi, Inflowmatix, Syrinix, Invenio, Ovarro, Temetra, Technolog, Gutermann, Elster (Honeywell), BT, MUS, Connexin and Xylem.
