Overseeing the London and South East Acoustic teams, James is responsible for developing our emerging professionals through training programmes and sessions.
Having worked in New Zealand for over five years, James brings a different perspective to acoustic design. Sustainable methods of construction (mass timber) and heating (heat-pumps) are common in New Zealand due to the seismic landscape and energy grid. This experience gave him a deep appreciation of the challenges the UK construction industry faces as it transitions to net zero targets—and the tools for how to address them.
James is particularly interested in vibration, whether it be dynamic floor testing, construction, or railway induced environmental vibration. Often seen as a 'dark-art' by many, he works to simplify the outputs and requirements such that they can easily be understood in building design.
James loves almost anything on or in the water—you’ll often find him on the Solent if there’s a sunny day!
