Mamhilad Urban Village
Centred around the former Nylon Spinners Factory, Johnsey Estates UK sought to turn this brownfield site into Mamhilad Urban Village: a modern, self-sufficient community with an environment that supports health, wellbeing, and accessibility¡ªwhile honouring the local history and surrounding landscape.
Working alongside technical specialists, our masterplanners, architects, and landscape designers were brought on board to create a masterplan and detailed design proposals to enrich and transform the area. Our intensive research and place making skills informed plans that weave together old and new development, creating a sustainable, urban community. As a result of our work, the Nylon Spinners Factory¡ªWales¡¯s largest listed building¡ªhas been converted into a home for start-ups and small businesses.
Mamhilad is an urban village that will deliver approximately 950 homes, create employment opportunities, and offer amenities that go beyond its shops, leisure facilities, and primary schools. Integration of extensive active travel and green infrastructure meet the goal for a healthy, sustainable community with enhanced woodland, watercourses, and green corridors to boost biodiversity. Mamhilad¡¯s strong identity and connection to nature and history will create a place where people truly feel they belong.
